New Year Greetings from the President – IESL
Dear Members of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka,
As we step into the New Year, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to you and your families. May the year ahead bring you good health, professional fulfillment, and renewed purpose in all that you do.
This New Year gives us an opportunity not only to celebrate fresh beginnings but also to reflect on our shared responsibility as engineers to our profession, our institution, and our nation. The trust you have placed in me as the President of IESL is deeply humbling, and I reaffirm my commitment to serve you with honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness, and justice—values that will continue to guide every decision and action of the Council and myself throughout this year.
As engineers, we are living in a time of profound change. Rapid developments in engineering education, global competition, workforce migration, climate change, sustainability imperatives, and the rise of artificial intelligence are reshaping our profession. These challenges remind us of one fundamental truth: our ability to adapt to change will determine our relevance, resilience, and success.
Let this New Year be a year of renewal for IESL—much like the eagle that renews itself to soar higher. We must be prepared to let go of outdated practices, fixed mindsets, and inefficient systems and courageously embrace transformation for a stronger future.
Accordingly, I invite all members to join me in committing to the following New Year resolutions for IESL:
To make 2025/26 the “Year of Process Improvement” by strengthening institutional excellence through transparent, efficient, and standardized systems that serve our members better.
To continuously enhance professional competence through globally relevant and accessible Continuing Professional Development, ensuring our engineers remain competitive both locally and internationally.
To strengthen IESL’s national voice, contributing actively to policy, standards, and frameworks that safeguard public interest and national development.
To elevate global recognition and membership value by advancing international accords, empowering chapters, and deepening professional collaboration.
To uphold ethics, professionalism, and good governance, embedding ethical conduct into every aspect of our work and reinforcing public trust in the engineering profession.
To champion sustainability and innovation, ensuring that engineering solutions balance technical excellence, economic viability, and environmental responsibility, while nurturing the creativity of our younger generations.
The year ahead will not be without challenges. Yet, I am confident that together as one united professional community we can turn these challenges into opportunities and aspirations into lasting achievements.
Let us begin this New Year with renewed hope, adaptability, and determination. I invite every member of IESL to walk with me on this journey, to actively contribute, to question constructively, and to help shape an institution that truly serves its members and our nation.
I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year. May it be a year of progress, purpose, and pride in being engineers of Sri Lanka.
